The idea for the school came one night in 1995. Marie Sawford, Chad Marquis, Christine Prokipcak and Christine's husband Chris Jenkins has gone to dinner prior to going to a co-worker's wedding. Marie and Christine were talking about training, dogs etc. After listening for a while, Chris spoke up and said, "Why don't you open your own school?" Christine and Marie didn't really take the comment seriously, but the seed was planted. A few weeks later the subject came up again, the decision was made and the wheels were put in motion.

Companion Dog Training opened its doors on March 05, 1996. We had humble beginnings in an old, but extremely large (16,000 sq. feet) factory. For those that were there, you would remember the stairs and the heat in the summer. We started with puppy classes and quickly grew to competitive obedience, privates, flyball and agility.

In October 1998 the school relocated to Speedvale Ave, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. We remained there until October of 2001 at which point we moved for a final time to 6926 Concession 2, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

Our permanent home is on a 86 acre farm owned by Marie and her family. The training building has been renovated and is still a work in progress. This building will be used year round. We have lots of flat fields to do agility classes, matches and trials.

Immediate future plans include a large outdoor fenced-in training area for agility classes. We also hope to host agility trials and matches in the summer.
